Decade of the Witch started, as many things on the internet seem to do, as an offhand comment to a friend. It was Christmas Eve; we were discussing what (and who) to leave behind in 2019. I announced that the 2020’s will be the Decade of the Witch, so get it together, both of us, for fuck’s sake.
Took a sip of wine.
Another.
I felt a one-sided sly grin slide onto my face. The one that always means trouble is brewing. My brother looked at me and said, “uh oh.” My mom said “what? Oh. Oh dear.”
And then I typed, “fuck it. I’mma see if that website is available.”
To be honest, I’m not quite sure what this will become. That’s one of the most beautiful and frustrating things about big projects and also witchcraft: one is never quite sure what one will get. What I hope to accomplish is to bring together a group of witches who want to explore their practice, share what works for them (and what doesn’t because that’s always fun…), and most of all, learn.
I want us to figure out how to harness our frustration with the patriarchy, capitalism, and a culture that systematically ignores and erases women and BIPOC in multitudinous ways, and turn it into action with intention.
I want to hex the shit out of the current president of the united states, along with all the other awful old white men, while also doing activism work outside of my casting circle to affect the world around me. (More on casting circles later – they are controversial and individual, like most witchy things.)
I want us to learn to demand our joy in these horrible times, to learn better ways to create and maintain boundaries, and to be the change.
I want to be a no-holds-barred, don’t-give-a-fuck, fearless and fearsome witch.
I keep trying to comment. testing..testing…testes
